08 Japanese film box office announced that Japanese domestic films beat foreign films
On January 29th, Japan Film Producers Union announced the box office revenue of Japan’s domestic film market in 2008. The box office revenue of Japanese movies decreased by 1.8% compared with last year, with a negative growth for two consecutive years, totaling 194.836 billion yen (about RMB 14.8 billion). However, the total revenue of Japanese local movies increased by 22.4% year-on-year, totaling 115.859 billion yen (about RMB 8.8 billion), which is the highest box office revenue of Japanese local movies since it was announced in 2000.
